Shiny burlap. That's what this wood looks like to me. It's called curly sapele (sah-pee-lee) and it has a beautiful, chatoyant, copper-brown-gold hue that shifts colour with moving light. African blackwood spacers and red liners accent both the handle and the knife holder. The handle has a generous palm swell, that tapers to blade and heel. The knife just seems to melt into your hand when you pick it up, and has a secure feel even with a light grip and indexes very well.
Made from CPM154CM stainless, the blade is finished to a near mirror 2000 grit finish, and features a CNC laser engraved makers mark. The forward finger choil, rounded spine and balance point right at the start of the handle all contribute to a very easy handling knife. The blade measures in at 8.5"/21.6cm long, and is 2"/5cm wide at the heel. The spine is 1/16"/1.5mm at its widest, tapering to the tip.
The knife holder has its own trick up its sleeve. Embedded in the top of the slot are some magnets that hold the knife against the top of the holder when inserted in the slot. The idea here is to keep the knife stored without resting on the edge.
